[00:00:23] [SPEAKER_00]: Apple is expected to unveil the iPhone 16 at an event on Sept. 9.
[00:00:28] [SPEAKER_00]: The tech giant didn't release details of products to be shown at the event,
[00:00:33] [SPEAKER_00]: but it typically announces new iPhones every fall.
[00:00:36] [SPEAKER_00]: The iPhone 16 will come with new artificial intelligence-powered features,
[00:00:40] [SPEAKER_00]: including the ability to suggest email responses and create images.
[00:00:45] [SPEAKER_00]: Apple announced the AI features at its developers conference in June,
[00:00:49] [SPEAKER_00]: and has said the features will only work on the iPhone 15 Pro and any new iPhone.
[00:00:54] [SPEAKER_00]: The company didn't respond to a request for comment.
[00:00:57] [SPEAKER_00]: Canada is placing a 100% surtax on Chinese-made electric vehicles.
[00:01:03] [SPEAKER_00]: The charge will take effect in October and will be in addition to a 6.1% tariff already applied
[00:01:09] [SPEAKER_00]: to Chinese produced EVs imported into Canada.
[00:01:12] [SPEAKER_00]: The country's finance minister said the aim was to level the playing field for the Canadian EV industry.
[00:01:17] [SPEAKER_00]: Canada also intends to apply a 25% surtax on imports of steel and aluminum products from China.
[00:01:24] [SPEAKER_00]: The moves match measures taken by the Biden administration earlier this year.
[00:01:29] [SPEAKER_00]: And IBM is shutting down its China Research and Development Department.
[00:01:34] [SPEAKER_00]: An executive said that China R&D functions would be moved to other overseas facilities,
[00:01:39] [SPEAKER_00]: according to employees who attended a virtual meeting this morning.
[00:01:43] [SPEAKER_00]: IBM has told some employees it's adding engineers and researchers in places including
[00:01:47] [SPEAKER_00]: India, according to employees who were briefed.
[00:01:49] [SPEAKER_00]: The employees said more than 1,000 people will be affected by the closure.
[00:01:54] [SPEAKER_00]: IBM is the latest U.S. company to retreat from China amid tensions between the two countries.
[00:02:00] [SPEAKER_00]: In a statement, IBM said the changes won't affect its ability to support clients in China.
