[00:00:29] TNB Tech Minute for Monday, December 30th. I'm Cordelia James for The Wall Street Journal.

[00:00:35] The UK's Competition and Markets Authority says it's considering whether IBM's planned $6.4 billion takeover of HashiCorp would affect competition.

[00:00:45] The antitrust watchdog set a provisional February deadline to decide whether to clear the deal or refer it for further investigation.

[00:00:52] If cleared, the takeover would push IBM further into cloud and artificial intelligence.

[00:00:58] San Francisco-based HashiCorp makes tools and products that help its customers set up cloud infrastructure.

[00:01:05] Nvidia has closed its acquisition of Israeli software startup RunAI after months of regulatory scrutiny.

[00:01:12] Nvidia agreed to buy RunAI in April with the goal to expand its reach in software for AI data centers.

[00:01:18] RunAI software helps coordinate and maximize the use of Nvidia's AI chips.

[00:01:23] The European Commission signed off on the deal in December.

[00:01:26] The U.S. Justice Department also examined the deal.

[00:01:30] RunAI's founders said that the software would be open source, making it available for others to use and modify.

[00:01:37] And, a year-end tech sell-off rattled markets for a second straight session.

[00:01:42] Major U.S. stock indexes slumped.

[00:01:45] The tech-heavy Nasdaq fell 1.2%, leading the day's declines.

[00:01:50] Tech names such as Arm Holdings, Broadcom, and Micron dropped more than 2%.

[00:01:56] The Nasdaq had fallen 1.5% on Friday.

[00:01:59] And before we go, heads up, we'll be back with our next TNB Tech Minute on Thursday, January 2nd.
