In the current landscape of AI sentiment analysis, there are challenges faced by organizations in justifying the costs of generative AI projects. While executives expect AI to boost productivity, employees report feeling overwhelmed and experiencing burnout due to increased workloads. This discrepancy between leaders and employees underscores the need for organizations to invest in AI implementation, leverage freelance talent, and rethink productivity metrics to address these issues effectively.
The episode also delves into the findings of the 2024 Stack Overflow Developer Survey, revealing a widening gap between the increasing use of AI tools by developers and their trust in the accuracy of these tools. Concerns around misinformation, data attribution, and bias contribute to the lack of trust in AI systems. Despite these concerns, developers do not see AI as a job threat, with JavaScript remaining the most popular programming language and AWS leading in cloud platforms.
Furthermore, the discussion touches on the evolving landscape of IT and privacy policy, with a focus on the modernization of the Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program (FedRAMP) and recent court rulings on border searches. The modernization of FedRAMP aims to enhance cloud security authorization processes, driving government-wide digital transformation and IT modernization. Additionally, the court ruling emphasizes the importance of warrants for searches, safeguarding privacy rights protected by the First and Fourth Amendments.
Lastly, the episode explores Microsoft's response to the CrowdStrike outage, where 8.5 million PCs were affected by a faulty update. Microsoft is considering restricting third-party access to the Windows kernel to enhance system reliability and security. This incident underscores the importance of software quality and system resilience, prompting discussions around kernel access policies. The episode concludes with a call for technology advancements and a reminder of the significance of software quality in ensuring system reliability.

[00:00:02] [SPEAKER_00]: It's Tuesday, July 30, 2024, and I'm Dave Solb, three things to note today.
[00:00:07] [SPEAKER_00]: AI Sentiment Analysis, addressing the gaps between business leaders and employees, product use, and trust.
[00:00:14] [SPEAKER_00]: FedRAMP Modernization in court rulings on border searches highlight major IT and privacy policies shifts, and Microsoft Security Strategy, lessons from a crowd-strived outage and potential kernel access restrictions.
[00:00:28] [SPEAKER_00]: This is the business of tech.
[00:00:32] [SPEAKER_00]: I spotted a bunch of AI-related sentiment data, and I wanted to combine it for an insightful look.
[00:00:38] [SPEAKER_00]: Gardener predicts that by the end of 2025, at least 30% of generative AI projects will be abandoned due to issues like poor data quality and unclear business value.
[00:00:48] [SPEAKER_00]: Executives are seeking quick returns on investments but justifying the cost, which can range from 5 million to 20 million dollars remaining challenging.
[00:00:56] [SPEAKER_00]: Despite some organizations reporting significant improvements in revenue and productivity, the indirect financial benefits of generative AI investments complicate those ROI calculations.
[00:01:07] [SPEAKER_00]: A study reveals that 77% of employees report AI has increased their workload, contradicting the 96% of C-suite leaders who expect AI to boost productivity.
[00:01:18] [SPEAKER_00]: Many employees feel overwhelmed with 71% experiencing burnout and 40% believing their companies demand too much regarding AI.
[00:01:28] [SPEAKER_00]: To address these issues, experts suggest organizations invest in AI implementation, leverage freelance talent, rethink productivity metrics, and adopt skill-based hiring.
[00:01:38] [SPEAKER_00]: Employees are encouraged to use AI training at seek outside expertise but alleviate workload concerns.
[00:01:45] [SPEAKER_00]: The 2024 stacked overflow developer survey reveals a widening gap between the increasing use of AI tools, 76% of developers and trust in their accuracy on the 43% trust them.
[00:01:58] [SPEAKER_00]: Key concerns include misinformation, incorrect data attribution, and bias.
[00:02:03] [SPEAKER_00]: Despite this, 70% of developers do not see AI as a job threat.
[00:02:09] [SPEAKER_00]: JavaScript remains the most popular programming language and AWS is the leading cloud platform.
[00:02:15] [SPEAKER_00]: The survey included 65,000 developers from 185 countries, adding trends, including resources and tools.
[00:02:23] [SPEAKER_00]: I don't know their survey indicates that 42% of business leaders believe generative AI enhances creativity despite concerns about originality.
[00:02:31] [SPEAKER_00]: Among over 500 surveyed leaders, 60% reported that AI saves time for more creative tasks and nearly 50% feels it accelerates idea generation.
[00:02:42] [SPEAKER_00]: The study categorizes organizations as laggards, followers, and leaders with 47% of leaders using generative AI tools for problems solving.
[00:02:51] [SPEAKER_00]: Additionally, four and five leaders have utilized AI for visual content creation, although many brands remain hesitant to adopt generative AI due to fears using the penners' marketing strategies.
[00:03:05] [SPEAKER_00]: Now why do we care? There are two gaps here. First, the gap between business leaders and employees.
[00:03:11] [SPEAKER_00]: Second, there's a gap between product and trust. Companies nest and allies both the business value and cost to make informed investment decisions and determine the future of their generative AI initiatives.
[00:03:25] [SPEAKER_00]: And that's where providers come in. All of these gaps are areas to exploit and generally not with technology insights.
[00:03:33] [SPEAKER_00]: Instead, bring the analysis and business acumen to guide your customers.
[00:03:39] [SPEAKER_00]: Moving data between storage platforms used to be slow, complicated and challenging.
[00:03:45] [SPEAKER_00]: Movebot changed that with a simple data migration tool that just works.
[00:03:50] [SPEAKER_00]: Migrate files, emails, contacts, and calendars with movebot.
[00:03:55] [SPEAKER_00]: Movebot supports over 30 platforms, including on-prem, biosurverers.
[00:04:00] [SPEAKER_00]: Start moving data in minutes using the intuitive web interface with no infrastructure setup for management required.
[00:04:09] [SPEAKER_00]: Listeners can get 25% off. Visit Movebot.io slash MSB radio to learn more.
[00:04:18] [SPEAKER_00]: The White House is set to release final guidance for modernizing the Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program or FedRAMP.
[00:04:26] [SPEAKER_00]: The guidance aims to reform the cloud security authorization program by focusing on rigorous reviews, quick mitigation of security weaknesses, and establishing an automated process for security assessments.
[00:04:39] [SPEAKER_00]: Agencys and the General Services Administration have specific timelines for updating policies and processes to align with the guidance.
[00:04:47] [SPEAKER_00]: The modernization of FedRAMP is seen as a catalyst for government-wide digital transformation and IT modernization.
[00:04:54] [SPEAKER_00]: An Federal court rule that U.S. border agents cannot search visitors' cell phones, including U.S. citizens without a warrant in the eastern district of New York.
[00:05:05] [SPEAKER_00]: This decision follows a case involving Krabanali at Sumpanov, whose phone was searched without a warrant at JFK Airport.
[00:05:14] [SPEAKER_00]: Civil liberties groups supported the rulings emphasizing that warrantless searches violate privacy rights protected by the first and fourth amendments.
[00:05:22] [SPEAKER_00]: The court acknowledged the agents acted in good faith, but affirmed the need for warrants in such searches.
[00:05:29] [SPEAKER_00]: At a quick update, Apple has agreed to adopt a voluntary AI safe guards established by President Biden's Administration,
[00:05:36] [SPEAKER_00]: joining other major companies like OpenAI, Amazon, Alphabet, Meta and Microsoft,
[00:05:41] [SPEAKER_00]: and testing their AI systems for discrimination, security flaws, and national security risks.
[00:05:48] [SPEAKER_00]: Why do we care?
[00:05:50] [SPEAKER_00]: FedRAMP quietly influences more than most IT services companies know, with the changes in CMMC 2.0, many customers and their MSPs will need to remain applied with the Federal Government.
[00:06:02] [SPEAKER_00]: And many solutions will make the cut.
[00:06:05] [SPEAKER_00]: See my bonus episodes about CMMC if you aren't up to speed.
[00:06:10] [SPEAKER_00]: Warrants for searches are established precedents, it's good to see them re-affirm.
[00:06:17] [SPEAKER_00]: And I did want to pick this up from the verge.
[00:06:19] [SPEAKER_00]: Microsoft is advocating for changes to Windows following that crowd strike outage that affected 8.5 million PCs due to the faulty update.
[00:06:27] [SPEAKER_00]: Microsoft is considering restricting third-party access to the Windows kernel to enhance system reliance and security.
[00:06:33] [SPEAKER_00]: John Cable from Microsoft emphasizes the need for collaboration with security partners and mentions new security features that do not rely on kernel access.
[00:06:43] [SPEAKER_00]: The incident may reignite discussions about kernel access policies.
[00:06:47] [SPEAKER_00]: A very Microsoft faces regulatory issues dating back to proposed changes to Windows Vista in 2006,
[00:06:54] [SPEAKER_00]: which met with pushback from cybersecurity vendors and EU regulators.
[00:06:59] [SPEAKER_00]: Why do we care?
[00:07:01] [SPEAKER_00]: Unless and we hope comes from incidents like Crowd strike is that software quality matters.
[00:07:05] [SPEAKER_00]: Building up system resilience is important, and technology should advance a change.
[00:07:10] [SPEAKER_00]: We'll see what change comes of this, but be particularly interested in those EU regulators.
[00:07:18] [SPEAKER_00]: Thanks for listening, it's International Day of Friendship and National Cheesecake Day.
[00:07:23] [SPEAKER_00]: Let's get by those two.
