Amazon has announced the discontinuation of its video conferencing service, Chime, effective February 20, 2026, opting instead to adopt Zoom and Microsoft 365 for its internal operations. This decision follows a billion-dollar deal with Microsoft for 365, reflecting a significant shift in Amazon's approach to enterprise communication. The transition to Zoom is seen as a strategic move, as Chime struggled to gain traction in the market. This endorsement of Zoom strengthens its position in the enterprise communications sector, while Microsoft 365's integration aligns with a broader trend of companies gravitating towards Microsoft's ecosystem.
Zoom has recently launched new automation tools, including the Zoom Workflow Automation, designed to enhance productivity by allowing users to automate routine tasks with the help of AI. This tool integrates seamlessly with third-party applications like Jira, enabling automated actions such as generating meeting summaries. Additionally, Zoom has introduced the Zoom Up Services Program, which aims to enhance partner revenue opportunities and improve post-sales success. This program represents a shift towards a more partner-centric approach, allowing partners to unlock new revenue streams and deliver exceptional solutions.
In the realm of cybersecurity, Right of Boom has partnered with the Center for Internet Security to launch a comprehensive training course aimed at managed service providers. This course, featuring 300 modules and a certification test, is designed to help providers master essential cybersecurity controls amidst increasing cyber threats. While the course's certification may not hold significant value for customers, its ties to highly regarded CIS frameworks and practical lab components make it a relevant option for providers looking to enhance their skills and showcase their security proficiency.
On the technology front, Microsoft has made strides in quantum computing with its new Majorana 1 processor, which could potentially accommodate one million qubits. This advancement, made possible through the development of a new material and architecture, represents a significant milestone in quantum computing. [00:00:01] It's Friday, February 21st, 2025 and I'm Dave Sulp for Things to Know Today. With Chime gone, Amazon bets on Zoom and Microsoft 365. Meanwhile, Zoom doubles down on AI and partnerships. Right of Boom's new course targets MSP security gaps but will it gain traction? From malware surges to Microsoft's mixed messaging, security challenges are mounting and quantum computing breakthrough,
[00:00:27] Microsoft's Majorana One aims for a million qubits. This is the Business of Tech. Zoom has launched new automation tools to enhance productivity, including the widely available Zoom Workflow Automation. The tool simplifies workflows within Zoom and third-party applications, allowing users to automate routine tasks with the help of an AI companion.
[00:00:51] The workflow automation tool features various triggers, enabling automated actions like generating meeting summaries and integrating with platforms such as Jira. Additionally, Zoom has rolled out updates to improve existing features, including new video clip generation capabilities and enhanced data management in Zoom docs. Zoom has also launched the Zoom Up Services program, a new initiative aimed at enhancing partner revenue opportunities and driving post-sale success.
[00:01:18] This program is designed to assist partners in delivering top-tier post-sales services, including solution deployment and customer support, across the Zoom platform. Currently, the program is in its first phase, rolling out globally with early adopters, and it will expand throughout the fiscal year 2026.
[00:01:35] It offers three service models for partners, reseller or referral services, certified services where partners can provide their own branded offerings endorsed by Zoom after completing the required training, and partner-delivered program for certified partners who meet specific proficiency standards.
[00:01:53] Nick Tidd, head of global channel go-to-market at Zoom, emphasized that this program represents a significant shift toward a more partner-centric approach, enabling partners to unlock new revenue streams and deliver exceptional solutions. And Amazon has announced it will end support for its video conferencing service, Chime, by February 20th, 2026, and will no longer accept new customers.
[00:02:15] The company will replace Chime with Zoom and gradually roll out Microsoft 365 internally, following a reported billion-dollar deal for Microsoft 365 in late 2023. The internal deployment of Microsoft 365 is already in progress and will occur slowly across Amazon's workforce. Amazon's transition to Zoom as its standard meeting application comes after recognizing that Chime's external usage was limited. Why do we care?
[00:02:42] Zoom's introduction of workflow automation aligns with broader industry trends, embedding AI-driven productivity tools directly into its core product. The ability to automate workflows across third-party platforms like Jira adds convenience but also deepens reliance on the ecosystem. For providers, it presents both an opportunity to help clients integrate and manage these automations, and a risk due to increased vendor lock-in.
[00:03:08] Amazon's decision to shut down Chime in favor of Zoom and 365 is a significant indicator of market trends. Chime never gained meaningful external traction, leading Amazon to no longer view it as a worthwhile investment. Zoom gets a major endorsement, strengthening its position in enterprise communications, and Microsoft 365 becomes even more dominant as Amazon adapts it for internal collaboration, aligning with a broader enterprise shift toward Microsoft's ecosystem.
[00:03:35] For providers, automation and partner expansion create potential new service opportunities, but success will depend on how open and flexible these initiatives really are. This episode is supported by Flexpoint. Flexpoint offers a purpose-built payment solution from managed service providers, automating billing operations to enhance efficiency and cash flow. With features like accounts receivable automation, branded client portals, and secure same-day payments, Flexpoint streamlines financial management.

Experience improved cash flow and client satisfaction with Flexpoint's comprehensive platform. Learn more at getflexpoint.com slash msp-radio.
[00:04:28] Bright of Boom, a cybersecurity community focused on managed service providers, has partnered with the Center for Internet Security and Anti-Cython Training to launch a new course aimed at helping those providers master essential cybersecurity controls. The course includes 300 modules, a lab component, and a 100-question certification test, making it a comprehensive and affordable training option.
[00:04:51] The course is created to help providers showcase their competency in cybersecurity, addressing the increasing demand for expertise in the field as cyber threats grow more prevalent. Why do we care? I don't consider it particularly valuable for customers as a certification. This requires marketing investment that certification organizations have not undertaken. But the course is notable for several reasons. First, the ties to CIS controls.
[00:05:16] CIS frameworks are highly regarded in cybersecurity, making this course particularly relevant for clients focused on compliance. And with practical labs, unlike purely theoretical training, the incorporation of lab work emphasizes real-world application, essential for providers tasked with securing client environments. And cost-effectiveness. Many cybersecurity certifications, such as CISSP or CEH, come with hefty price tags.
[00:05:42] If this course offers a budget-friendly option for providers to enhance their team's skills and showcase security proficiency, it may experience strong uptake. This will be one to watch, but widespread impact isn't guaranteed yet. A recent report from WatchGuard reveals a rise in endpoint malware detections compared to the previous quarter.
[00:06:04] The alarming rise coincides with a 74% decrease in threats blocked per 100,000 active machines, indicating a surge in homogeneous spam-like malware. The report highlights a significant shift in tactics, showing a 40% increase in signature-based detections as threat actors increasingly employ social engineering strategies. With the value and popularity of cryptocurrency on the rise, there's a notable increase in the use of crypto miners by cyber criminals.
[00:06:34] Organizations of all sizes are urged to adopt artificial intelligence-powered threat detection solutions to effectively manage and mitigate these evolving threats. And Microsoft has announced that it will not implement automatic sign-in for Microsoft accounts as originally planned. Initially scheduled for February, this change would have kept users signed in unless they opted out or used private browsing. However, the company confirmed to The Verge that the information shared was incorrect, and the notifications regarding the change have been withdrawn.
[00:07:03] Alex Simmons, a corporate vice president at Microsoft, stated that the reports were based on incomplete information mistakenly released by the product team. Currently, there is no timeline when Microsoft intends to roll out these changes, which would have simplified the sign-in process by removing prompts to stay signed in. Why do we care? The WatchGuard report reveals a concerning contradiction. While endpoint malware detections are rising, the number of blocked threats per 100,000 machines is decreasing.
[00:07:34] It suggests that malware is becoming less varied but more widespread, indicating that attackers are refining social engineering-based, easily replicated malware that can evade detection. As for Microsoft, backtracking on automatic sign-in exposes a bigger problem. Inconsistent messaging on security changes. Security is an area where clarity is key. This is an unfortunate stumble.
[00:07:59] Microsoft has announced a significant advancement in quantum computing with its new Majorana 1 processor, which is compact enough to fit in the palm of a hand. After 17 years of research, the company has developed a new material and architecture that could enable a single chip to accommodate 1 million cubits, greatly enhancing the potential for solving complex industrial problems.
[00:08:20] Unlike traditional processors that use electrons, Majorana 1 utilizes Majorana Particles, a concept introduced by theoretical physicist Ettore Mergeriata in 1937. This breakthrough is made possible through what Microsoft describes as the world's first topoconductor, a material that can manipulate these delicate particles to produce more reliable cubits.
[00:08:44] The Defense Advanced Research Project Agencies has selected Microsoft to construct a fault-tolerant prototype quantum computer, aiming for completion in years rather than decades. Microsoft emphasizes that this milestone could lead to solutions for some of the world's most challenging issues and represents a pivotal step in the evolution of quantum computing. Why do we care? We are years away from quantum computing. Quantum computing has been in the breakthrough phase for years.
[00:09:13] We're still far from solving real-world problems. Is this an actual leap forward or just another research milestone? I'm going to go with the latter. So you're updated with no action required. Are you ready to get your brand in front of the tech leaders shaping the future of managed services?
