[00:00:01] [SPEAKER_00]: It's Thursday, Feb-15, 2024, and I'm Dave Sobel. Three things to know today.
[00:00:07] [SPEAKER_00]: TeamLogic IT Partners with NinjaOne for Endpoint Management over over 100,000 devices.
[00:00:13] [SPEAKER_00]: CISA unveils its 2024 cybersecurity priorities to counter advance threats and protect critical
[00:00:19] [SPEAKER_00]: infrastructure. And ArcServe shakes the MSP market with a sudden discontinuation of
[00:00:25] [SPEAKER_00]: cloud services and one safe solo. This is the Business of Tech.
[00:00:32] [SPEAKER_00]: Today's episode is supported by CoreView. Your customers need your Microsoft 365 expertise,
[00:00:38] [SPEAKER_00]: and CoreView has the only M365 management platform designed for MSPs.
[00:00:44] [SPEAKER_00]: Manage hundreds of tenants, automate manual tasks, and monitor compliance, all while intelligently comparing to the baseline.
[00:00:51] [SPEAKER_00]: With a no-code control approach, CoreView revolutionizes your Microsoft 365 administration.
[00:00:58] [SPEAKER_00]: This powerful platform enables automatic reporting and remediation,
[00:01:02] [SPEAKER_00]: ensuring optimal performance and security. The best part? You achieve this high level
[00:01:07] [SPEAKER_00]: of service without the need for a large workforce, allowing you to focus on growing
[00:01:12] [SPEAKER_00]: your business through efficiency. Want to know more? Visit coreview.com slash MSP and find out more.
[00:01:22] [SPEAKER_00]: According to JumpCloud's SME IT Trends report, UK SMEs reliance on managed services providers
[00:01:29] [SPEAKER_00]: is increasing due to their cost effectiveness. The report found that 62% of respondents use
[00:01:35] [SPEAKER_00]: MSPs to some extent within their IT program. However, 19% of respondents do not work with an
[00:01:42] [SPEAKER_00]: MSP and have no plans to do so. The report suggests that SMEs with a uniform technology
[00:01:48] [SPEAKER_00]: stack may not require MSPs. Still, those with diverse resources such as MacBooks may benefit
[00:01:55] [SPEAKER_00]: from MSPs specializing in device deployment security. TeamLogic IT has selected Ninja 1
[00:02:02] [SPEAKER_00]: as its endpoint management platform to streamline the remote management of over 100,000 endpoints.
[00:02:08] [SPEAKER_00]: Ninja 1 will automate critical tasks such as patch management, software deployment,
[00:02:12] [SPEAKER_00]: monitoring and alerting. TeamLogic IT chose Ninja 1 for its security, scalability, reliability,
[00:02:19] [SPEAKER_00]: and world-class support. TeamLogic IT previously used Kaseya.
[00:02:25] [SPEAKER_00]: Why do we care? In my vendor days, I tried with two companies to sell TeamLogic IT and
[00:02:31] [SPEAKER_00]: RMM Switch. They were die-hard Kaseya customers. This speaks volumes.
[00:02:37] [SPEAKER_00]: The report indicates that a significant portion of small companies at 62%
[00:02:41] [SPEAKER_00]: already engage with MSPs. It was on a call earlier this week where it was observed that
[00:02:47] [SPEAKER_00]: a substantial portion of this industry believes a primary competitor is no decision,
[00:02:52] [SPEAKER_00]: meaning there isn't another MSP involved. That's being disproven by data.
[00:02:59] [SPEAKER_00]: The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency has released the 2024
[00:03:04] [SPEAKER_00]: priorities for the Joint Cyber Defense Collaborative. The JCDC will focus on
[00:03:10] [SPEAKER_00]: defending against advanced persistent threat operations, raising baseline protections for
[00:03:15] [SPEAKER_00]: critical infrastructure and anticipating emerging technology and risks.
[00:03:20] [SPEAKER_00]: Concerns have been raised about the effectiveness of the JCDC due to a lack of technical expertise
[00:03:26] [SPEAKER_00]: and an overabundance of lawyers. CISA plans to address these concerns and provide
[00:03:31] [SPEAKER_00]: value to the industry by showcasing risk mitigation. The first priority will include
[00:03:37] [SPEAKER_00]: the release of an updated National Cyber Incident Response Plan and CISA plans to defend against
[00:03:42] [SPEAKER_00]: state-backed hackers and decrease ransomware attacks against critical infrastructure.
[00:03:48] [SPEAKER_00]: Microsoft and OpenAI have discovered that hackers are using large language models,
[00:03:52] [SPEAKER_00]: like ChatGPT, to enhance their cyber attacks. Russian, North Korean, Iranian, and Chinese-backed
[00:03:58] [SPEAKER_00]: groups are utilizing ChatGPT to research targets, improve scripts, and develop
[00:04:04] [SPEAKER_00]: social engineering techniques. While no significant attacks have been detected yet,
[00:04:09] [SPEAKER_00]: Microsoft and OpenAI are actively shutting down accounts and assets associated with these hacking
[00:04:15] [SPEAKER_00]: groups. Microsoft has released patches for 73 security flaws, including two zero days that are
[00:04:22] [SPEAKER_00]: actively being exploited. The vulnerabilities span Microsoft's software lineup, including
[00:04:27] [SPEAKER_00]: critical flaws in Windows Hyper-V, Microsoft Exchange Server, and Microsoft Outlook.
[00:04:32] [SPEAKER_00]: In addition to Microsoft, other vendors have also released security updates to address
[00:04:36] [SPEAKER_00]: various vulnerabilities. It's recommended as always with the latest updates be applied
[00:04:40] [SPEAKER_00]: to ensure system security. Cyber criminals are using malware to steal face ID scans from
[00:04:48] [SPEAKER_00]: iOS users to break into and steal money from their bank accounts. A Chinese-speaking cyber
[00:04:53] [SPEAKER_00]: crime group, Gold Factory, has been distributing Trojanized smartphone apps since June 2023,
[00:05:00] [SPEAKER_00]: with the latest version targeting users in Thailand. The malware tricks users into performing
[00:05:06] [SPEAKER_00]: biometric verification checks, which are then used to bypass security measures in
[00:05:10] [SPEAKER_00]: legitimate banking apps. The stolen biometric data is combined with deep fake technology
[00:05:16] [SPEAKER_00]: to access victims' banks remotely. Why do we care? Patch your stuff. Now, moving on from
[00:05:24] [SPEAKER_00]: that, I wanted to focus first on the scary idea of biometrics being hacked at this level.
[00:05:29] [SPEAKER_00]: It's just one more justification for fighting deep fakes and pushing for watermarks.
[00:05:35] [SPEAKER_00]: I'll continue reporting on JCDC's progress. I want to be hopeful here. Trust, but verify, right?
[00:05:45] [SPEAKER_00]: Let's talk about a bit more product news and start with some product chaos.
[00:05:50] [SPEAKER_00]: ArcServe, a storage and data protection software developer, has abruptly ended sales of its
[00:05:54] [SPEAKER_00]: ArcServe cloud services and ArcServe One Safe Solo offerings, leaving MSPs scrambling to find
[00:06:01] [SPEAKER_00]: replacements. From CRN, the decision to terminate these technologies aligns with the company's
[00:06:07] [SPEAKER_00]: support policy and cloud services terms and conditions. ArcServe plans to invest in innovative
[00:06:13] [SPEAKER_00]: solutions to better service partners and customers. MSPs are expressing frustration
[00:06:18] [SPEAKER_00]: and disappointment with the sudden exit from the cloud services business as they now
[00:06:23] [SPEAKER_00]: have to migrate their customers to other cloud providers.
[00:06:26] [SPEAKER_00]: Meta's decision to shut down its Facebook Groups API is causing disarray among businesses and
[00:06:32] [SPEAKER_00]: social media marketers. The API, which allows developers and businesses to schedule posts
[00:06:37] [SPEAKER_00]: and privately reply in Facebook groups, will be removed within 90 days. The move has significant
[00:06:44] [SPEAKER_00]: implications for companies offering social media post scheduling, automation solutions,
[00:06:48] [SPEAKER_00]: and agency partners. The closure of the API may put some businesses out of operation
[00:06:54] [SPEAKER_00]: and impact their customers. Meta's motivation behind the decision remains to be determined
[00:06:59] [SPEAKER_00]: and developers are left uncertain about the future of their projects.
[00:07:04] [SPEAKER_00]: Google has officially retired the Cache links from its search results page.
[00:07:08] [SPEAKER_00]: The Cache feature allowed users to build webpages as Google sees them. It was useful
[00:07:13] [SPEAKER_00]: for various purposes such as SEO debugging, news gathering, and a way to see information
[00:07:17] [SPEAKER_00]: companies were trying to scrub from the web. Google claims the feature is less necessary now
[00:07:23] [SPEAKER_00]: due to improved internet reliability. Although there are no immediate plans to replace the
[00:07:28] [SPEAKER_00]: feature, Google is considering adding links to the Internet Archive as an alternative.
[00:07:35] [SPEAKER_00]: Parallels has launched a new cloud-based desktop as a service solution, Parallels Das,
[00:07:40] [SPEAKER_00]: targeted at the MSP market and SMB customers. The solution complements the remote
[00:07:46] [SPEAKER_00]: application server and offers simplicity, competitive pricing, and security. Parallels aims
[00:07:52] [SPEAKER_00]: to expand its market share and compete with Citrix in the channel. In other product news,
[00:07:58] [SPEAKER_00]: new Slack AI features bring personalized search, automated channel recaps,
[00:08:03] [SPEAKER_00]: and thread summaries to the platform. The features aim to enhance productivity
[00:08:07] [SPEAKER_00]: and utilize the platform's proprietary context. Slack emphasizes that the AI
[00:08:12] [SPEAKER_00]: capabilities require no training and prioritize data security. The offering is seen as a competitor to
[00:08:18] [SPEAKER_00]: AI integrations from Microsoft and Google with Slack positioning itself as an integration-friendly
[00:08:24] [SPEAKER_00]: platform. Why do we care? Combined with Broadcom's changes to the VMware partner program we've
[00:08:32] [SPEAKER_00]: previously discussed, underscores the importance of developing robust vendor management strategies
[00:08:37] [SPEAKER_00]: that include contingency planning for sudden product discontinuations. Brutal.
[00:08:44] [SPEAKER_00]: Providers should consider discontinuing services and products as a regular activity. Why? You want to
[00:08:51] [SPEAKER_00]: practice this skill as the more you plan for it, the easier it becomes. Examine 20% of your
[00:08:57] [SPEAKER_00]: service offerings yearly and rotate through over a five-year cycle. This skill will be leveraged
[00:09:04] [SPEAKER_00]: when a vendor pulls the rug out from under you.
[00:09:09] [SPEAKER_00]: Thanks for listening. It's National I Want Butterscotch Day, which is weirdly named in my opinion.
[00:09:17] [SPEAKER_00]: It's also National Flag Day in Canada, so a tip of the hat to our neighbors to the north.
[00:09:22] [SPEAKER_00]: Have a question you want answered? We're taking listener questions. Send them ideally
[00:09:26] [SPEAKER_00]: as a voice memoir video to question at mspradio.com. I'll be answering listener
