[00:00.000 --> 00:07.320] It's Thursday, February 8, 2024, and I'm Dave Sobel, three things to know today. [00:07.320 --> 00:13.260] Google revamps their AI strategy and unveils Gemini Ultra and launches a new Google One [00:13.260 --> 00:20.640] tier with enhanced features, Automation Nation 2024, Connect-wise Unveils Advanced RPA, and [00:20.640 --> 00:27.800] AI capabilities in Tampa, and JCDC's setback, how conservative scrutiny and internal issues [00:27.800 --> 00:30.880] are challenging cybersecurity efforts. [00:30.880 --> 00:35.880] This is the Business of Tech. [00:35.880 --> 00:42.200] Today's episode is supported by CoreView, your customers need your Microsoft 365 expertise [00:42.200 --> 00:48.360] and CoreView has the only M365 management platform designed for MSPs. [00:48.360 --> 00:53.640] Manage hundreds of tenants, automate manual tasks, and monitor compliance, all while intelligently [00:53.640 --> 00:55.560] comparing to the baseline. [00:55.560 --> 01:01.600] With a no-code control approach, CoreView revolutionizes your Microsoft 365 administration. [01:01.600 --> 01:07.080] This powerful platform enables automatic reporting and remediation, ensuring optimal performance [01:07.080 --> 01:08.840] and security. [01:08.840 --> 01:09.840] The best part? [01:09.840 --> 01:14.200] You achieve this high level of service without the need for a large workforce, allowing [01:14.200 --> 01:18.120] you to focus on growing your business through efficiency. [01:18.120 --> 01:19.280] Want to know more? [01:19.280 --> 01:23.600] Visit coreview.com slash MSP and find out more. [01:26.560 --> 01:31.280] Today is very much about AI models because everybody made moves. [01:31.280 --> 01:37.840] Google is rebranding its AI model bard as Gemini and launching Gemini Ultra, its most capable [01:37.840 --> 01:39.640] large language model. [01:39.640 --> 01:45.880] Gemini Ultra will be available through a new $20 Google One tier, including two terabytes [01:45.880 --> 01:49.960] of storage and access to Gemini in Google Workspace apps. [01:49.960 --> 01:54.960] The company is also launching a Gemini app for Android, and it's bringing it to the Google [01:54.960 --> 01:56.920] app in iOS. [01:56.920 --> 02:02.680] Gemini Advanced, the paid plan, will be available in more than 150 countries and territories [02:02.680 --> 02:06.840] initially in English with Japanese and Korean coming later. [02:06.840 --> 02:14.760] Gemini Ultra 1.0 is a multimodal model that excels in complex tasks and understanding context. [02:14.760 --> 02:19.680] The $20 price point puts Google in lines with competitors like Microsoft. [02:19.680 --> 02:25.320] This includes upgrades to Google Assistant to leverage Gemini. [02:25.320 --> 02:30.360] Microsoft has announced a redesigned look for its co-pilot AI search and chatbot experience, [02:30.360 --> 02:34.000] a new built-in AI image creation and editing functionality. [02:34.000 --> 02:38.800] They've also introduced a new AI model called Dukelion. [02:38.800 --> 02:43.840] The region design includes a cleaner landing page with more white space and a visual carousel [02:43.840 --> 02:46.080] of AI-generated images. [02:46.080 --> 02:51.280] The company aims to position co-pilot as a creative tool for content creation in film, [02:51.280 --> 02:54.880] TV, video gaming, and entertainment industries. [02:54.880 --> 02:59.960] The AI image generation features are currently available in select countries, and Microsoft [02:59.960 --> 03:05.600] will also have a co-pilot AI ad during the Super Bowl. [03:05.600 --> 03:11.960] OpenAI's image-generated Dali 3 will add watermarks to image metadata using Coalition [03:11.960 --> 03:17.720] for content provenance and authenticity standards, or C2PA. [03:17.720 --> 03:23.520] The watermarks will be visible and include a CR symbol in the top left corner of each image. [03:23.520 --> 03:28.520] The watermarks aim to identify the provenance of AI-generated content and will not significantly [03:28.520 --> 03:34.720] impact latency or image quality, however, they can be easily removed, and watermarking [03:34.720 --> 03:38.960] is not foolproof in preventing misinformation. [03:38.960 --> 03:45.280] Meta plans to label Facebook, Instagram, and Threads posts containing AI-generated images. [03:45.280 --> 03:50.320] The technical solution for automatic labeling is not yet ready, but Meta will use metadata [03:50.320 --> 03:54.440] to identify AI-generated images from various sources. [03:54.440 --> 04:00.240] Users can disclose and label AI-generated or digitally altered content, and penalties may [04:00.240 --> 04:03.040] be applied for failure to do so. [04:03.040 --> 04:08.360] The move comes after Meta's oversight board with pressure and criticism to its manipulated [04:08.360 --> 04:10.720] media policy. [04:10.720 --> 04:17.160] Apple has developed a new AI model called MGIE, allowing users to edit images by describing [04:17.160 --> 04:19.200] them in plain language. [04:19.200 --> 04:23.280] The model developed in collaboration with the University of California at Santa Barbara [04:23.280 --> 04:28.800] can perform tasks like cropping, resizing, flipping, and adding filters to images based [04:28.800 --> 04:30.840] on text prompts. [04:30.840 --> 04:36.200] Apple has made the model available for download on GitHub and released a web demo. [04:36.200 --> 04:42.680] MGIE can handle various editing aspects, including Photoshop-style modification, global [04:42.680 --> 04:46.880] photo optimization, and local editing. [04:46.880 --> 04:48.440] Why do we care? [04:48.440 --> 04:51.920] Bard didn't last long, now replaced by Gemini. [04:51.920 --> 04:56.280] Gemini is across the entire Google Suite, similar to Co-pilot. [04:56.280 --> 05:00.120] Depending on your ecosystem, you'll be learning one or both. [05:00.120 --> 05:05.360] The Superbowl ad signifies Microsoft's commitment to making AI a mainstream tool further submitting [05:05.360 --> 05:07.120] its position in the market. [05:07.120 --> 05:09.640] Don't be dismissive. [05:09.640 --> 05:14.400] This is laying the groundwork for customers to ask, and remember, those questions are [05:14.400 --> 05:16.440] sales questions. [05:16.440 --> 05:20.880] The other big trend here is watermarks, right on the heels of growing concerns about the [05:20.880 --> 05:25.440] authenticity and misuse of AI-generated content. [05:25.440 --> 05:30.880] Finally, thinking broadly, MSPs and IT services companies must be versed in the various models [05:30.880 --> 05:32.360] available. [05:32.360 --> 05:38.000] This is the same relationship that Sommelier's have with wine, matching customers' needs and [05:38.000 --> 05:41.480] tastes to the right tools and models. [05:41.480 --> 05:49.200] Sommelier's are well-trained and well-paid. [05:49.200 --> 05:54.000] Connect-wise has announced significant advancements in its robotic process automation solution and [05:54.000 --> 05:59.040] Connect-wise sidekick, leveraging workflows, bots, and artificial intelligence within the [05:59.040 --> 06:01.680] Connect-wise ASO platform. [06:01.680 --> 06:05.520] These developments streamline the search experience, enhance the onboarding process, [06:05.520 --> 06:09.560] address limitations, and streamline device and client management. [06:09.560 --> 06:15.080] Connect-wise RPA and AI capabilities were unveiled at the Automation Nation 2024 event [06:15.080 --> 06:16.920] in Tampa, Florida. [06:16.920 --> 06:21.320] When I asked for further information on sidekick, Connect-wise noted that more than 80 sidekick [06:21.320 --> 06:24.760] features are now available. [06:24.760 --> 06:26.960] Why do we care? [06:26.960 --> 06:28.640] Autonomous IT will be the direction. [06:28.640 --> 06:34.440] The key takeaway for businesses and IT service professionals is embracing RPA and AI technologies [06:34.440 --> 06:36.560] to enhance service delivery. [06:36.560 --> 06:41.400] Connect-wise and ATERRA have the early lead in their AI announcements. [06:41.400 --> 06:47.360] I'll tease an episode I'm releasing tomorrow, an interview with TJ Carwall who's launched [06:47.360 --> 06:48.880] Friday AI. [06:48.880 --> 06:53.280] He claims to be the first AI-powered MSP and now has a product in the market. [06:53.280 --> 06:54.880] It's a different approach. [06:54.880 --> 06:58.120] I look forward to your feedback. [06:59.120 --> 07:02.440] Let's highlight some reporting in Politico. [07:02.440 --> 07:08.080] Due to mismanagement and concerns about conservative blowback, leading experts are stepping back [07:08.080 --> 07:12.800] from a government cybersecurity initiative, the Joint Cyber Defense Collaborative, or [07:12.800 --> 07:14.280] JCDC. [07:14.280 --> 07:20.080] The JCDC aimed to enlist private sector hackers to share threats with the government, but participants [07:20.080 --> 07:22.080] have reduced their involvement. [07:22.080 --> 07:26.880] The initiative is crucial for protecting government and critical infrastructure as Chinese hackers [07:26.880 --> 07:29.960] increasingly target American systems. [07:29.960 --> 07:35.680] SISA, the agency responsible for cybersecurity, disputes claims of drop-off in private sector [07:35.680 --> 07:41.920] to participation and emphasizes the importance of the JCDC in addressing hacking threats. [07:41.920 --> 07:46.520] However, there are concerns about staffing and slow response times. [07:46.520 --> 07:52.600] The conservative backlash against SISA's disinformation work has also impacted the JCDC, [07:52.600 --> 07:58.040] leaving participants uncertain about support and expanding conservative scrutiny into cybersecurity [07:58.040 --> 07:59.040] efforts. [07:59.040 --> 08:05.240] Huntress, the managed security platform for SMBs, joined the Joint Cyber Defense Collaborative [08:05.240 --> 08:10.280] to provide cybersecurity planning, defense, and response with a press release in January. [08:10.280 --> 08:17.080] Huntress has also worked with JCDC on the RMM Cyber Defense Plan. [08:17.080 --> 08:18.960] Why do we care? [08:18.960 --> 08:23.000] The JCDC's mission to enlist private sector hackers to share threats with the government [08:23.000 --> 08:27.600] underscores the role of public-private partnerships in cybersecurity. [08:27.600 --> 08:30.240] We should worry if there are issues. [08:30.240 --> 08:34.760] Such collaborations are essential for protecting government and critical infrastructures. [08:34.760 --> 08:36.560] Mismanagement is one thing. [08:36.560 --> 08:41.760] The conservative backlash against SISA's disinformation work impacting the JCDC points [08:41.760 --> 08:46.480] to a broader issue where the political climate can influence cybersecurity. [08:46.560 --> 08:51.520] That's dangerous, and as an industry, we should be vigilant to stand up to it. [08:54.640 --> 08:55.520] Thanks for listening. [08:55.520 --> 08:59.600] Today is Fat Thursday, so distinctly a time to indulge. [08:59.600 --> 09:02.320] That's the Thursday before Ash Wednesday. [09:02.320 --> 09:03.680] I'm going to make the most of it. [09:04.320 --> 09:07.760] The weekend bonus episode I mentioned will drop tomorrow. [09:07.760 --> 09:10.560] Looking forward to hearing from listeners on that one. [09:10.560 --> 09:12.240] I'll be back again on Monday. [09:12.240 --> 09:12.960] Got a comment? [09:12.960 --> 09:14.880] A question or a thought or a story? [09:14.960 --> 09:18.960] Put it in the comments if you're on YouTube or reach out on LinkedIn if you're listening [09:18.960 --> 09:20.160] to the podcast. [09:20.160 --> 09:22.160] I'll talk to you again on Monday. [09:44.880 --> 09:53.200] Community at patreon.com slash mspradio or by our why do we care merch at businessof.tech.
